Preschool-Based Behavioral Support

As part of our part-day preschool program, we offer specialist behavioral support to children between the ages of three and five.

We know that young children learn primarily by interacting with their environment and peers.  Our state preschool classrooms are rich in learning opportunities and materials are carefully chosen to meet each child’s unique needs and abilities. We offer behavioral support for preschoolers who have experienced a traumatic event or loss or who are presenting struggles such as:

  • Social withdrawal
  • Fearfulness, sadness, or tearfulness
  • Frequent behavioral problems at preschool or home
  • Aggression toward others
  • Changes in appetite or sleep
  • Threats to harm self
  • Rejecting or avoiding being touched or held
  • Not turning to familiar adults for comfort

We can work with you and your child to understand what is happening, evaluate their needs, and build a classroom-based plan that supports their healthy development and well-being. Our empathetic, insightful, and professional Behavioral Specialists provide two-to-one support for children receiving preschool-based behavioral services, supplementing the enriched classroom environment created by our caring teaching staff.

Classes meet Monday to Friday for 3 hours a day. We Care’s behavioral support services are free to children up to age five with Medi-Cal who live in Contra Costa County.
